Despite a successful job interview and having cleaned up the house, I'm feeling particularly low today for no particular reason. A thought may drift along every now and then concerning how pointless everything is, but they aren't connected to anything in particular and so they drift away again without anything to attach to. Perhaps it's simply the weather shift, from a beautiful sunny Tuesday full of energy boosting spring, back to even cloudier and darker skies with a sudden cold february breeze here in the south of England. Nevertheless, to help elate my mood and be ok with the present moment I've aided my body mind system with some external aromas to heal, uplift and relax.
10 drops Bergamot essential oil - citrus essential oils are well known for their uplifting effects when used in massage or aromatherapy. However, bergamot is one of the most renowned for its antidepressant qualities.
6 drops Lavender organic essential oil - Lavender essential oil is one of the most used and well known oils. It's renowned for it's effects of easing stress and tension and even helping insomniacs get a good nights rest. I frequently use this oil diluted in organic coconut oil and rubbed into my chest and neck when I know I'm going into a situation where I may feel some stress (like today's job interview!). Studies have shown that in oxygen therapy, when the atmosphere of the o2 room is infused with lavender essential oil, patients experience a greater amount of pain relief as well.
6 drops Ylang Ylang organic essential oil - known as an effective antidepressant by helping nervous tension in the body and mind relax, this exotic flowery essential oil is also known for its sedative and aphrodisiac qualities by helping the body and mind relax into the moment.
4 drops Frankincense organic essential oil - Frankincense has been shown to have powerful psychoactive antidepressant qualities, and its sweet and musky scent complements the others, the metaphor coming to mind of a warm, heavy blanket. Its energy clearing properties also create a clean quiet space, within which the mind can open up letting go of tense feelings.
