So in peak cold and flu season I've also succumbed to something giving me a great excuse to relax in bed, take long baths, listen to audiobooks and breathe in delicious essential oils all day long. The typically unpleasant symptoms of dry and sensitive nostrils and an itchy throat, as well as obviously strong bacterial presence has given me the necessary inspiration to experiment with various essential oil blends in my cold water diffuser placed at the head of my bed :)

After trying out various combinations of sage, rosemary, clove, lemon, tea tree and many more, the one that's provided the greatest relief to my symptoms as well as filling the air of my bedroom with organic potent anti-bacterial particles has been the following:

8 drops of Tea Tree (Certified Organic)

6 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata (Certified Organic)

6 drops of Lemon (Certified Organic)

4 drops of Peppermint (Certified Organic)

The Tea Tree essential oil provides the powerhouse of the anti-bacterial properties, but the others are also potent anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, deodorant, antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, and have many other medicinal qualities. The Eucalyptus Radiata is a powerful decongestant and works excellently together with the Peppermint essential oil which has strong cooling and anti-inflammatory properties that clear any headaches, heat symptoms and nausea. OrganicFacts.com describes peppermint essential oil "... also [as] an effective expectorant and therefore provides instantaneous, though temporary, relief for numerous respiratory problems including nasal congestion, sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, cold and cough." The Lemon essential oil fills the air with its delicious and scientifically proven stress relief properties, as well as powerfully aiding the immune system with high vitamin content and it's fresh fruity aroma helps you relax and fall asleep - a proven remedy for insomnia.

Of course, there are many many more blends of essential oils that can help you through this cold and flu season, but this is definitely my favourite daytime blend.
